Youth & Outreach Programs

Youth Camp Outings:
Before the festival, Gathering on the Green invites groups of children from social service organizations, such as the Boy's & Girl's Clubs,Children's Outing Association (COA) of Milwaukee and others to participate in a hands-on arts educational program. Children make instruments under the guidance of instructors from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and other invited teachers. They can also watch a dress rehearsal and have personal interaction with the performers. This gives them a first-hand introduction to the performing arts.

Saturday Children’s Activities:
Let’s face it; children like to keep busy. Gathering on the Green recognizes the needs of children at an event and not only gives them activities in which to participate, but also introduces them to the performing arts at the same time. They get to meet performers and learn about the different groups they will be seeing at the event. There’s our famous Treasure Hunt where the children go to different groups and places around the park and receive a prize at the end. Art projects, animals, sports activities and children’s entertainment fill out the Children’s Village. It is a fun afternoon for children of all ages.

Children’s Performing Groups:
Gathering on the Green takes pride in giving Wisconsin’s talented youth the opportunity to perform on our stages. Performers have varied from the talented 16-year old Naughton twins who have won national piano competitions, to the alive and vibrant Ton Ko-thi dance troupe, the Trinity Irish Dance Academy, Milwaukee Children’s Choir, First Stage and more.

Ticket Donation Program:
Each year, Gathering on the Green works with more than 25 social service agencies throughout the metro Milwaukee area to distribute hundreds of tickets to disadvantaged groups. This enables families to experience the arts together. When families are able to attend the arts together, it reinforces the family as a positive role model going to the performing arts for future generations and strengthens support
for the arts in our community.
